Softstart Module

Soft Start Module for transformers

High power transformers, such as those >600VA, would have high turn-on surge. When coupled with huge capacitor banks, the turn-on surge will be very high, and may possibly damage the transformers, blow fuses, and damage the sensitive circuits connected to the system.

This is where soft start module for transformers come in - to reduce the initial turn-on inrush current to a safe level before letting the full power kicks in.

DC blocker module

There's a lot of noise in the mains line. It will cause the power transformers to vibrate, hum and reduces the efficiency of the power transformers. The solution --> install a DC blocker module to remove DC pollution from the mains.

EMI RFI filter and DC blocker

There are 3 methods of filtering EMI/RFI.

1. Bypass between Live and Neutral lines with X or X2 capacitors. It reduces common mode noises. Capacitance range 0.01UF to 0.47UF.

2. Bypass Live and Neutral lines to ground with Y or Y2 capacitors. It reduces differential mode noise. Capacitance range is 2200PF to 0.1UF. In order to reduce leakage current, the capacitance should not be more than 0.1UF (we chose 3300PF).

3. Common mode cancellation - using CMC choke. CMC choke would need thick gauge wires for high current handling, and adequate inductance is required to improve low frequency response. We use 10mH. 

The module has 2 components: 

1. DC filter or DC blocker

2. Integrated 2-stage EMI/RFI filter.
